Before your pet can travel, we must stress that we are only the forwarder/clearance broker and we are not involved with the veterinary side. Please visit DEFRA for clarification on these regulations. We also recommend that you contact your local vet to arrange documentation. Your pet will not be allowed to travel to/from the UK without the correct paperwork.

EXPORT
CONTINENTAL QUICKPAK SERVICE AND REQUIREMENTS
EXPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL OTHER INTERNATIONAL CARRIERS
With every Export shipment charges are calculated on the size/weight of the animal traveling, the destination, route and time of year. We represent many major airlines and can ship to anywhere in the world throughout the year.
During the hot summer and cold winter months, most carriers to the United States have embargos. In conjunction with Continental Airlines, PBS International Freight Ltd can offer reliable temperature controlled transport to/from the aircraft, which then allows your pet to travel throughout the year. See Continental's PetSafe policy.
It is very important that the correct kennel is provided for your animal. Below is a chart with suggested crate lengths for most breeds of dogs. Here is a guide to measuring your pet and determining the correct crate size.Vari Kennels
PBS International Freight Ltd hold a large stock of Vari Kennels in all the sizes you see above. If your dog requires a larger size, we can arrange to have these tailor made. Please contact us for a quote on Vari Kennels, shipping costs and collection/delivery services for your pet/animals to your required destination.
Please note that if you are going to use your own kennel for your pet/animal you will need to check that it complies with industry IATA standard regulations.
The kennel must be sturdy, properly ventilated and most importantly must be large enough for the animal to freely sit and stand with its head erect, turn around, and lie down in a normal posture.
Note: A domestic pet carrier purchased from the majority of pet stores will most likely not be approved for air transport.
Check the closing mechanism to make sure it works properly, do not put a lock on the door, as the animal must be accessible in case of an emergency.
We do not recommend wheels unless they have a secure locking device.
Kennels should be nose and paw proof, in addition to this other species of pets such as rodent, birds etc have different criteria, please contact us for further details.
Only 1 dog or cat should be contained in each box, unless they are puppies or kittens younger than 6 months. Dogs and cats can not travel together in the same containers.
Two empty fixed dishes (food and water) must be fixed to the kennel and be accessable from the outside.
Absorbent material should only be black and white newspaper or blanket.
When you have received your quotation please note we will need the following information to make your booking with the airline;
- Departure date/Flight Numbers
- Breed/Name/Age/Sex of Pet/Animal
- Weight and size of Kennel (inc pet)
- Shipper/Consignee FULL name’s, addresses and contact tel/e-mail info.
Other points to remember when your pet is traveling are;
- No sedation or tranquillizers can be used due to the unknown affects from high altitudes.
- You should ensure you pet/animal is fed well in advance of travel.
- Try to exercise your pet/animal before you are due to meet a PBS member of staff.
- Arrive in plenty of time (check meet time with PBS) and be sure on where you are meeting and who you are meeting. Here is a map of Gatwick Cargo centre, with directions from the M23.
- Ensure that you have been informed or are aware of the procedure when your animal arrives at the destination. Customs Clearance is required at destination outside of the EC, some airlines include these rates and some don’t. You will be given an Airway bill number, this is critical to trace your pet/animal.
- Animals on long haul flights are given rest periods when connecting onto a second flight.
Delays: If the departing aircraft that your pet is traveling on is delayed for more than 2 hours, your pet will be taken to the Animal Reception Centre. Here your pet will be removed from its kennel, fed and watered and returned to the aircraft for the new departure time.
